On September 5, 2018, the Economic Research Institute of Kyoto University and the Center for Policy Research (CAPS) held the 86th special presentation. Professor Wang Yuan from our institute was invited to attend the event and gave a report on the impact of socio-economic development on air pollutant emissions. The academic session focusing on “Does the path of the Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) exist? New evidence from OECD countries and China” to explore socio-economic and environmental sustainability, and talks about the sustainable development of social economy and environment.

Professor Wang Yuan’s research on econometric modeling found that in both OECD countries and China, there is large heterogeneity in the impact of economic growth and urbanization on the emissions of different atmospheric pollutants such as CO2 and SO2, and provides a scientific basis for differentiated measures for reducing atmospheric pollutants.
